T he
Northwest DuPage Walk-In Ministry (NWDWIM)
The initial
goal was to bring the area’s resources together in a
collaborative program which could more efficiently provide
emergency services to people living in Bloomingdale, Wayne and
Winfield Townships. Discussions were held with area
churches and organizations.
The first of three sites was opened on May 5, 1999. In the years
since, assistance has been offered through sites housed in
churches in Carol Stream, Wayne, and West Chicago. While
the majority of food provided through the three food pantries is
purchased through the Northern Illinois Food Bank, NWDWIM
receives generous ongoing donations from area stores
(particularly Dominick’s and Costco), churches, organizations,
and individuals which have helped stock the pantries with basic
food staples for those who could not otherwise afford to buy
them.
In addition to food, monetary assistance
for housing (rent/mortgage/short-term shelter), utilities,
prescription medications and other medical related needs, and
transportation is available.
Incarnation is one of a growing number of
churches and organizations are making commitments to provide
funds, facilities, and/or volunteers for the ever-increasing
number of those who are seeking compassionate, effective
assistance in the community.

Church Periodical
The Church Periodical Club is an Episcopal
institution; its ministry is to supply books, magazines, tapes,
videos and computer programs
free to those who cannot otherwise obtain them and to
raise
the
money to do this. It dates back to 1888 when Mary Ann Drake
Fargo, wife of a member of the Wells-Fargo Express firm and her
friends in the Church of the Holy Communion, New York, sent
their bundles of books and periodicals westward to missionaries
and pioneers via stagecoach. This program is widely
supported throughout the Episcopal Church.
Incarnation has
been a sponsor of this program since the Spring of 2007 through
our ongoing Pennies From Heaven
Drive. Loose change is collected weekly and
forwarded to CPC to help purchase needed materials.

Gamblers Anonymous
GA is a fellowship of men and women who share
their experience, strength and hope with each other that they
may solve their common problem and help others to recover from a
gambling problem. The only requirement for membership is a
desire to stop gambling. There are no dues or fees for Gamblers
Anonymous membership; they are self-supporting through our own
contributions. Gamblers Anonymous is not allied with any sect,
denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not
wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes

Almost Home Foundation
Almost Home Foundation has
an aggressive goal to make it a
unique
and successful organization. Their mission is to:
-
To save adoptable dogs
and cats from being destroyed by finding permanent, loving
homes
-
To educate the public on the
importance of spay/neutering their pets to reduce the surplus
of unwanted animals
-
To promote training to
help the family and animal to live together
-
To network with other
organizations so that together we can make a larger impact on
saving animals.
-
To work with
municipalities to ensure stray dogs are scanned for microchips
and given to rescues if not claimed by owners.
-
To inform the public on
responsible pet ownership.
-
To advocate for the
animals to ensure that no breed specific legislation is
enacted and that these animals are always treated in a humane
way.
-
No animal that threatens
the safety and welfare of anyone will
knowingly be deemed adoptable.
Almost
Home is a Rescue not a Shelter. This simply means they do
not own a building where animals are housed, they look for
loving foster homes that will give temporary care and love on
the animal’s journey to a permanent, loving home. When a
foster home is not available, they will board the animal at a
boarding kennel.
They
also are a “No Kill” Rescue. This simply means that they
endeavor to find a home for animals that are adoptable.
When there is an animal that is seriously ill or very aggressive
toward humans, euthanasia is performed in a humane way.
Every animal is given a chance. No healthy and adoptable
animal will be euthanized.
